Creating a Character

Before starting this we were told it would be hard and that we may struggle, at first this was the case. I did not know where to begin. I asked for some help from a friend and they got me on my way. After a while i started to get the hang of the techniques.

The first thing we had to do was to create the 'body', this was done by drawing a box and streching out each of the segments to create the shoulders, neck and chest. The arms were quite tricky to get right, at first i was drawing straight liners for the arms when no one has straight arms. This is the same for the neck.

To create the legs i had to change the view i was looking at the image, the best view is from the bottom as you are able to see the segments completely. The next step was to create the head of the character. The easiest way of doing it was to strech out and bevel the segments to create a round shape.

The last step to do is to put a effect onto the body, the best one to choose is the 'turbo smooth' one as it creates a smooth effect which resembles skin.

Below are screen shots of the steps i took:

  1. This was quite good, but you have to watch that you don't end up pulling unwanted vertices or polygons, and deleting polygons which is what has happened to the poor chap's thigh! When you select a vertex make sure the lasso selection is right over it, so that you are selecting all of the vertices in that row.
